Nadia Lee Cohen | Photography Books
Nadia Lee Cohen is a British artist, photographer and filmmaker whose distinctive visual language draws from cinema, popular culture, fashion, advertising and the surreal landscapes of everyday life. Born in 1992 and raised in the English countryside, Cohen later relocated to Los Angeles, where the city's Hollywood imagery, consumer culture and unconventional characters became a major source of inspiration for her work.
Her photographs are highly constructed yet deeply character-driven, combining saturated colour, theatrical styling, humour and an underlying sense of ambiguity. Moving between portraiture, fashion and contemporary art, Cohen creates fictional worlds that often blur the boundaries between reality and performance, beauty and absurdity.
Her first major photobook, Women, was published in 2020 following six years of work. The book brings together 100 previously unseen portraits of women photographed across Los Angeles and London, creating a complex and theatrical study of identity, femininity and contemporary culture. Women has since reached its sixth edition.
Cohen's second book, Hello, My Name Is, was published in 2021 and develops her fascination with character, transformation and self-representation through a series of prosthetically enhanced self-portraits and still-life compositions. The project also formed the basis of her major solo exhibition at Jeffrey Deitch in Los Angeles.
Her publishing practice has continued with Women, The Flip Books, published in 2023, presenting separate editions focused on New York, London and Los Angeles. In 2024, Cohen also published Japan Women, extending her photographic exploration of women, popular culture and visual references into a new cultural environment.
Alongside her books, Nadia Lee Cohen has worked extensively across fashion, editorial photography, music and film. Her photographic commissions include work for Interview Magazine, CR Fashion Book, W Magazine, Dazed, i-D and Perfect Magazine, as well as portraits and collaborations with internationally recognised cultural and fashion figures.
